Adolin threatensthreatened Sadeas with a slow death and reflectsreflected thathow yousociety can abandon an ally on the battlefieldfound and leave them to die, but an offense in person isworse consideredthan worseabandoning inna lly on the eyesbattlefield ofto societycertain death. He almost punchespunched Sadeas in the face, but iswas stopped by [[Amaram]]. Adolin triestried to convince Amaram to secede, but Amaram sayssaid he must remain with Sadeas to help bridge gaps. He also, saysadding that he and Sadeas have an understanding. Adolin doubtsdoubted Amaram's sterling reputation. He iswas distracted, however, by the arrival of [[Shallan]] and iswas struck by her beauty. Adolin and Shallan meetmet and flirtflirted for a while before Adolin iswas sent away by his father. Dalinar revealsrevealed to Shallan while Adolin is away, that the reason he agreed to the causal betrothal of his son was to make Adolin seem unavailable to those who would manipulate him for political gain. She hashad to persuade him, Navani and Adolin to turn the causal into a full betrothal. When Shallan ignoresignored Adolin, it's was Kaladin's turn to mock Adolin.
