Denth was originally known as VaraTreledees and was a scholar before the [[Manywar]]. He initially tried to stop the war, but ultimately took Vasher's side.{{wob ref|5841}} He has hated Vasher ever since [[Vasher]] killed his sister [[Shashara]] and does not care that he did it to protect the secret of [[Awakening]] steel.{{book ref|wb|51}}
 
Some time after the Manywar, he took the name Denth and created a [[Denth's crew|mercenary band]] with [[Tonk Fah]], [[Jewels]], and [[Arsteel]]. AtA onecouple of months prior to the events of the rebellion,{{book pointref|wb|19}} Arsteel encountered Vasher, who killed him. Denth took this opportunity to see how a dead Returned worked, knowing that Arsteel and his fighting expertise could continue to contribute to the [[Denth's crew|crew]] as a [[Lifeless]] named [[Clod]].{{wob ref|6806}}
 
Denth also spent time on the planet [[Roshar]], though when and for what purpose remains unclear.{{wob ref|1511}}
