I will hunt you! You cannot deny me my vows! My tradition cannot be broken!

—Lezian[1]

Lezian, also known as The Pursuer, is a nex-im Fused on Roshar, or one of "Those Ones of Husks". He was the first Fused to have been killed by a human; ever since, he would always find his killer and kill them in turn before anything else could, earning him his title.[1]

Appearance and Personality

Lezian has endangered our plans, undermined strategies, and ruined more missions than I can count. And he's growing worse.

Even among the Fused, Lezian is massive, standing at over seven feet tall. As his powers do not allow him to carry anything with him, he goes around naked; however, his body is wrapped in long, blood-red hair, and he has a long beard. Where his skin is visible, it's pitch-black, with lines of red marbling under the eyes; as with all Fused, the eyes themselves glow soft red. A pair of fin-like horns of carapace rises above his ears; he can break it off and use it as weapons, seemingly with no harm to himself.[2] When outside of his body, Lezian looks like red-violet light that can dart about at high speeds.[3]

He is short-tempered, forceful and spiteful. He cares a lot about his reputation, and will easily lie -- even about things such as the strength of his enemies -- to make himself look better in front of the others.[1] He can't handle public humiliation, and grows furious when others aren't suitably awed by him.[4] He isn't subtle, and his methods are usually extremely straightforward, while at the same time, cruel.[5] He's not above beatings and torture of civillians, if it serves his cause.[6] In fact, he seems to have no regard for non-combatants whatsoever, ordering them massacred for the crime of annoying him with their attitude.[4]

Lezian is obsessed with his Passion of pursuing those who had killed him before, and his single-minded dedication to hunt down and kill whoever killed him has ruined numerous plans and missions of the Voidbringers. He cannot handle the shame of dying to a human, to the point where at the end of each Desolation, he'd rather kill himself than let a human, or even another Fused, send him to Braize.[1] Even when expressly denied the right to kill his target, he still pursues them, and will resort to any underhanded trick to get at them.[7] He is impatient; even when told to wait for a while to avoid death, his obsession pushes him onward to act, to his detriment.[4]

Abilities and Attributes

As a nex-im, Lezian has access to the Surge of Transportation. Lezian is named the Pursuer, due to his tradition of hunting down those that had previously killed him and claiming their life. This tradition was started to avoid the shame of being the first Fused to be killed by a human.[1][8] He was so dedicated to this that he would even kill himself once the Heralds returned to Braize so that he couldn't be killed by a human he couldn't later Pursue. Leshwi notes that while he is respected for his determination, he is also reckless, having endangered plans and ruined many missions.[1]

History

During the True Desolation, Lezian first appeared in Hearthstone on the mission to test the Fourth Bridge's battle potential. Kaladin came to the town before the ship, and had been spotted. Lezian came searching, and eventually found Kaladin in disguise.[2] The two fought, and eventually Lezian retreated, warning Kaladin to watch for him.[3] Later, the Pursuer reappears and Kaladin confronts him. He then used a Voidlight fabrial that suppressed Kaladin's powers. Lezian laughs and says that Kaladin relies too much on his powers in combat, but Kaladin attacks anyway, and kills the Pursuer, becoming Lezian's next target.[9] Kaladin fought the Pursurer multiple times during Raboniel's occupation of Urithiru, ultimately killing him again just prior to the restoration of the Sibling and naming him "Defeated One". When Lezian returns after this death, El annihilates him with a dagger charged with anti-Voidlight in order to test whether the inverse Light functions as Raboniel theorized. It does, and Lezian permanently dies.
