An Earth-like Shardworld, Sel wasis inhabited by humans and artificially created beings called [[Seon]]s and [[Skaze]]. The planet wasis the location of [[Elantris (city)|Elantris]]. Sel wasis dominated by the [[Fjordell]] Empire, with [[Arelon]] and [[Teod]] being the only remaining free nations. All these nations (except Teod which is located on a continent to the north) wereare situated on the continent of Opelon (named Sycla by the Fjordell Empire).

Sel has three eras: the Early, Middle, and Late Eras. The Late Era is said to occurbegin two centuries before the [[Reod]].{{qa ref|768|6|Aon Ene: History and Use|date=2005}}

The main populated continent on Sel wasis called Opelon by those in the west{{book ref|Elantris|1}} and Sycla by those in the east{{book ref|Elantris|3}} and the [[Rose Empire]]{{book ref|tes|day|76}}. There wereare two major powers on Opelon,: Arelon and the Fjordell Empire. The capital of Arelon wasis the city of Elantris, which wasis a monarchy, ruled by the [[Elantrian]] King [[Raoden]]. Under the king, there wasis a class of nobles, who control various plantations throughthroughout Arelon. Their primary function wasis to distribute food to the people of Arelon. Arelon controlledcontrolls the area to the west of the Atad Mountains, and south of the northern ocean. Arelon wasis mainly made up of followers of the [[Shu-Korath]] religion, although there wereare still remnants of the old pagan religion that worshiped the Elantrians. There wasis also a small number of followers of the [[Jeskeri Mysteries]].

All of other the nations on Opelon hadhave been subsumed into the [[Fjordell Empire]]. The empire wasis ruled by a leader known as [[Wyrn]], who wasis also head of [[Shu-Dereth]], which has been used as a vehicle to dominate nations. The Fjordell Empire wasis, aton the surface, completely Derethi. However, many of the people of the empire, especially those in back-country areas like Hrovell, still followedsecretly follow their old religions secretly, like the Jeskeri Mysteries.

The peninsula of another continent north of Opelon wasis populated by the nation of [[Teod]].{{map ref|Arelon}} The capital of Teod wasis Teoin, mostand recentlyits ruledruler byis King [[Eventeo]]. Teod's martial strength wasexists mainly in the form of its navy, which dominateddominates the northern sea, protecting its borders from the Fjordell Empire. The Korathi religion wasis centered in Teod.

The [[Rose Empire]] wasis on the same continent as Teod (though distant from it){{book ref|tes|day|76}}. It hadhas many provinces, including but not limited to [[Mulla’dil]], [[MaiPon]], [[Dzhamar]], [[Ukurgi]]. They hadhave some diplomatic trade with other nations, such as [[Svorden]] and [[Jindo]]. The empire also maintains a little used pass that leads to [[Teod]].{{book ref|tes|d|98}} Certain segments of the population seem to have a concept of Realmatic Theory.

The planet playedis residentthe tohome of two [[Shard]]s, [[Devotion]] ([[Aona]]'s Shard) and [[Dominion]] (held by [[Skai]]).
