Surges are considered by the people of [[Roshar]] to be the fundamental forces by which the world operates. Manipulating Surges is called [[Surgebinding]].{{book ref|sa1|part=ars}}{{book ref|sa2|part=ars}} These abilities were accessed by the [[Herald]]s, through their [[Honorblades]] and by the [[Knights Radiant]], through their [[Nahel bond]].
