Plants cannot grow on Saltstone, and it taints soil in contact with it, killing even potted plants over time. The island of [[Diggen's Point]] is made entirely of Saltstone, and operates an essential mine to extract salt from the rock. It is a highly sought after commodity, being one of the only two things that can render [[aether spores]] inert the other item being silver, and is one the primary exports of the island. The saltstone of the island is powerful enough to kill aether spores floating above it, thus keeping the inhabitants and visitors of Diggen's Point safe.{{book ref|tress|1}}
