== History ==
Despite being Herdazian, Lopen's wasfamily born inleft [[AlethkarHerdaz]] when he was a baby, and he has never beenvisited tohis [[Herdaz]]homeland ever since.{{book ref|sa2|41}} Lopen ended up in the bridge crews simply because somebodyhe foundannoyed him very annoyingsomebody. When [[Kaladin]] comes looking for new recruits for [[Bridge Four]], he calls on Kaladin to pick him, and claims that he made this decision because the person who was picked was special, and all the others were not.{{book ref|sa1|32}} Even though he didn't know what a bridge crew was at the time, he wanted to join Bridge Four. Though a one-armed man would not be good at carrying bridges, Kaladin chooses him because he was smiling, unlike all the other men.
He is always fascinated when Kaladin absorbs [[Stormlight]], and says that women would love him if he learned to "glow" like Kaladin. He repeatedly attempts to [[Invest]] Stormlight from gemstones, and eventually succeeds. He uses it to restore his missing arm. {{book ref|sa2|87}}
 
He is currentlyAs one of Kaladin's squires[[squire]]s, andhe volunteers to teach some of the hopefuls who want to join Bridge Four. He spends some time assuring the ground that although he was leaving for the sky, he still loved the ground and the ground should not miss him.
He brings King [[Elhokar]] to his family's home for a period of time to hide him. Lopen's mother forces him to eat, claiming that no king can tell a Herdazian mother what to do in her own home. They don't want to have to lie when they tell people that they don't have King Elhokar with them, so they persuade him to abdicate in favor of Lopen for about fifteen minutes {{wob ref |1703|Arcanum Unbounded Release Party|date=2016/11/22}}.
 
Lopen later becomes a Knight Radiant in his own right and is seen playing hide-and-seek with his spren, a male Windrunner spren named [[Rua]], after the [[Battle of Thaylen Field]]. Currently he has achieved the [[Order of Windrunners#The_Second_Ideal|Second Ideal]] of the Windrunners.{{book ref|sa3|121}}

== King of Alethkar ==
 
A wounded [[Elhokar|King Elhokar]] is taken to Lopen's home in [[Little Herdaz]] to recover after a failed attempt on his life. Deciding to conceal the king for his own safety, but being averse to lying, Lopen's family members somehow persuade the king to temporarily abdicate in favor of Lopen so that they could truthfully say that "King Elhokar" was not with them. This makes Lopen king of Alethkar for fifteen minutes.{{wob ref |1703|Arcanum Unbounded Release Party|date=2016/11/22}}.
 
When they reach the safety of Urithiru, Lopen tries to convince the Alethi to add him to the list of Alethi kings. This is not taken seriously.{{book ref|sa2|89}}
