Kelsier wasis the younger brother of [[Marsh]], who wasis disappointed at Kelsier's apparent lack of direction or purpose until Kelsier beganbegins the [[skaa rebellion]]. He always keptkeeps a smile on his face, believing that wasis the best way to fight.

Kelsier wasis tall and hawk-faced and hadhas light-blonde hair{{ref|b|mb1|c|3}},; he hadhas a multitude of large scars crossing both arms from his time in the Pits.{{ref|b|mb1|c|prologue}} He usually worewears a nobleman's suit (A colored vest with dark trousers and a coat) and for night time activities his [[mistcloak]].

He wasis almost always late to any gatherings, which he attributedattributes to always having somewhere better to be{{ref|b|mb1|c|27}}. He always smiledsmiles and projectedprojects an excited and positive attitude, which wasis particularly unusual in the skaa underground,. heHe diddoes this in order to fight the lordLord rulersRuler's oppression of all the skaa, he wantedwants to have one thing which could notcannot be taken away from him.{{ref|b|mb1|c|prologue}} He hatedhates all of the nobility and tendedtends to believe that all of them wereare to blame for the plight of the skaa, although near the end of his life this attitude changedchanges due to Vin's insistence that [[Elend]] wasis different and that not all the nobles should be fought. He hadhas an imposing presence and wasis a natural leader, easily taking charge and swaying even the downtrodden skaa of Luthadel into joining the rebellion with his charming personality.

Born to a [[noble]] father and skaa mother{{ref|b|mb1|c|8}}, his mother kept both Kelsier and Marsh alive by pretending that she was a noble to their father so that their children would be considered merely illegitimate noblemen instead of half-breeds; however, their father eventually found out. Kelsier then made his living as a thief, becoming famous throughout [[Luthadel]]. However, after a failed attempt at stealing from the Lord Ruler himself in his secret room inside [[Kredik Shaw]], he was sent to the [[atium]] mines in the [[Pits of Hathsin]]{{ref|b|mb1|c|4}}. There, the night of the death of his wife, he "Snapped", becoming a [[Allomancy#Mistborn|Mistborn]]{{ref|b|mb1|c|17}}. Using Allomancy he was able to escape the Pits. Kelsier was then trained by a mistborn named [[Gemmel]]{{ref|b|11m}} and they travelled to the far north of the [[Western Dominance]] to a city called [[Mantiz]] where Kelsier heard rumours of the [[malatium|Eleventh metal]] from the skaa in [[Keep Shezler]]. Kelsier sought and eventually found the Eleventh metal as he believed it would help him to defeat the Lord Ruler.{{ref|b|11m}}

After discovering the [[malatium|Eleventh metal]] Kelsier travelledtravels back to Luthadel and tooktakes a job from the skaa rebellion to bring down the final empire. After gathering a team of some of the best (and Kelsier believed, the kindest) thieves in the city, including skilled [[misting]]s, he setsets in motion a plan to destroy the [[Final Empire]] and kill the [[Lord Ruler]]. After saving her and her former crew, he tooktakes on [[Vin]] as a student after confirming his suspicions about her being a Mistborn and saving her from [[Camon]]{{ref|b|mb1|c|3}}. While pulling off the plan Kelsier himself tooktakes on many roles, acting as a beacon to the repressed skaa he assistedassists in recruitment{{ref|b|mb1|c|10}}, he attackedattacks many Noblemen to increase the tensions between the Great Houses{{ref|b|mb1|c|5}}, he collectedcollects information by purchasing it from informants and also posedposes as an informant himself in order to provide misinformation to Noblemen.{{ref|b|mb1|c|19}} Though they sufferedsuffer many setback, Kelsiers leadership allowedallows the rebellion to attain an army of sufficient size to hold Luthadel.

When several skaa from the rebellion wereare about to be exectuedexecuted, Kelsier attemptedattempts to save them,. heHe wasis confronted by a Steel Inquisitor which he eventually managedmanages to defeat. howeverHowever, Kelsier wasis then confronted by the Lord Ruler, who stabbedstabs him in the chest with a spear, killing him.{{ref|b|mb1|c|34}} Kelsier later revealedreveals in his letter to Vin that he had intended to use the Eleventh Metal to destroy the Lord Ruler but could not discover how to use it in his fight.{{ref|b|mb1|c|35}} His death resultedresults in the founding of the Church of the Survivor, who calledcall him "Lord of the Mists". As a result of this Vin also becamebecomes a major religious figure.

Kelsiers body wasis used by the [[Kandra]] [[OreSeur]]{{ref|b|mb1|c|35}} and later by [[TenSoon]]{{ref|b|mb3|c|52}} after his death to make appearances to and inspire his followers.

An apparationapparition with theKelsier's appearance of Kelsierfeatures appearedappears to [[Spook]], giving him the ability to burn pewter, but this wasis later revealed to be [[Ruin]], who wasis using Kelsier as a guise.

Kelsier wasis a Mistborn, and so he couldcan burn every Allomantic metal, although washe is particularly proficient with the external physical metals; [[iron]] and [[steel]]{{ref|b|mb1|c|34}}, he wasis capable of using them with a high degree of precision to control the momentum and rotation of dozens of pieces of metal simultaneously. He lackedlacks finesse in the external mental abilities of [[zinc]] and [[brass]] as he tendedtends to create large changes in emotional states as opposed to the more subtle Soothing abilities of [[Breeze]].{{ref|b|mb1|c|10}} He was quiteisquite proficient at pewterdragging and hadhas enough practice to maintain it for hours and still maintain a relativefair amount of clarity afterwards.{{ref|b|mb1|c|25}}
