Karata had lived in [[Kae]] before she was taken by the [[Shaod]] with her husband, who was a Royal Guard, and had a little daughter. [[Raoden]] took her to see her child in exchange for her help and knowledge to leave Elantris.{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|13}}

She lead one of the gangs in the [[Elantris (city)|Elantris]] prior to [[Raoden]]'s arrival. She lived in the Elantrian palace,{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|4}} where she sheltered the children who had been taken by the [[Shaod]].{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|13}}

She was beheaded by a guard whilst Raoden was drawing the [[Chasm]] into the base Aon in [[Elantris (city)|Elantris]].{{book ref|b|Elantris|c|61}}
