Durante las Desolaciones, Odium otorgó a sus soldados ciertos poderes, permitiéndoles permanecer más allá de sus muertes como sombras cognitivas. Después de ser asesinados, estos cantores, conocidos como [[Fusionado]]s, son capaces de apoderarse de los cuerpos de otros cantores y manipular las [[Potenciación | potencias]] con [[luz del vacío]]. Cada vez que un Fusionado es asesinado, su alma se limitará a nacer en otro huésped. Esto se convirtió en un reto para los humanos ya que sus enemigos más fuertes no podían ser asesinados del todo; por lo cual se creó el Juramento.
During the Desolations, Odium had given his soldiers powers, allowing them to remain past their deaths as Cognitive Shadows. After being killed, these singers, known as the [[Fused]], were able to take over the bodies of other singers and manipulate the [[Surge]]s with [[Voidlight]]. Every time a Fused was killed, the soul would simply be born again into a new host. This made an impossible challenge for the humans as their strongest enemies could never be permanently killed, and so the Oathpact was created to solve this problem.
