'''Hoed''' are [[Elantris|Elantrians]], after the [[Reod]], foundwho find it too hard to live after sustaining too many injuries. Since Elantrians are immortal, when the pain becomes too much, they can only lie on the ground, barely coherent, muttering broken phrases, for all time.
 
Hoed can be relieved from their pain if they are taken to a nearby [[Shardpool]], which vaporizes their bodies.
