De vez en cuando juega nerviosamente con estos anillos. Gereh was a Feruchemist with an unknown skillset;{{book ref|sa4|77}} although if he was born post-Catacendre, it is likely he is a Ferring rather than a full Feruchemist. He could also effectively hide some of his physical features that made him stand out as a person of non-Rosharan descent.{{book ref|sa4|i|5}} Gereh also had come into possession of a red Aviar at some point in the past. The powers granted by the Aviar are still unknown but the intelligent bird is very loyal to the man and able to feel Gereh's location from a distance.

Nothing is known of Gereh's early life, or where he was born, but he worked long enough in the Kholinar palace as steward that he was known as a fixture there,{{book ref|sa4|prologue}} becoming an important if minor functionary.{{book ref|sa4|i|5}} While Gereh's apparent profession was steward, he also served as an agent for an unknown master.{{book ref|sa4|77}} It is uncertain why Gereh chose to work in the palace or the identity of his true master, although it may have been King [[Gavilar Kholin]] himself. It is likely that in the year 1173, Gereh became aware of [[Axindweth]], a [[Terris|Terriswoman]] agent of operating for [[Odium]] in the Kholinar palace. He turned Gavilar against her and forced her to flee the planet.{{book ref|sa4|77}} On the night of the treaty signing celebration with the [[listeners]], Gereh approached Queen [[Navani Kholin]] in the palace gardens prior to feast to inform her that Brightlord [[Rine Hatham]] was expecting an audience with Gavilar to discuss border disputes and the king was nowhere to be found.{{book ref|sa4|prologue}} He then led Navani to Hatham.
