A Lashing is a power used by Windrunners. There are three Lashings which comprise two different types of Surgebinding.

Basic Lashing

A Basic Lashing creates a gravitational pull. This lashing is the most commonly used Lashings among the Windrunners, though it was not the easiest to use. A basic lashing temporarily re-assigns the spiritual gravitational bond to a different object or direction, for example lashing something upwards will cause it to fall towards the ceiling or sky. It's also possible to create fractional Basic Lashings, for example, lashing a quarter of an object's mass upward will reduce its weight by half and lashing half its mass upward will render the object weightless.

Full Lashing

A Full Lashing binds objects together. It is similar to a Basic Lashing but works on different principles. The concept behind a Full Lashing is that the objects are bound together. The bond is so strong that it often will not break even after the materials around the Lashing have been destroyed. The Knights Radiant referred to this ability as Surging.

Reverse Lashing

A Reverse Lashing gives an object a gravitational pull. This Lashing requires the least amount of Stormlight. It involves creating an artificial gravitational spiritual bond around an object that will pull other objects to it. It is much more difficult to have items that are on the ground pulled to this object because of the strength of the bond they have with the ground. It is easier to pull items in the air or mid flight, for example pulling arrows towards a shield or bridge.
