Described as old {{ref|book|wb|5}} Dedelin wear simple oustere clothes despite being King of [[Idris]]. He has the Royal Locks keeping his hair black usually though showing enough lack of control to allow the red of anger and the white of fear tinge them at times. {{ref|book|wb|1}}
He is an astute ruler and capable of putting the good of his kingdom before his own personal wishes as shown by his sending his daughter to honour the treaty with [[Hallandren]]. He is also shown to be thoughtful and decisive as he ponders over the political and military implications and seeks council, but once his mind is made up he acts decisively and cannot be persuaded to renege on his position. HOwever he is also a man of passion, controlled passion, but passion nonetheless as seen in his streaks of red anger and the way he allows his love of [[Vivenna]] to dictate his response to the treaty.{{ref|book|wb|1}}
