===Rysn's Journey to Akinah===
Cord was recruited by [[Lopen]] for the journey to Akinah, due to her ability as a [[Sighted]] and her desire to see more of the world.{{book ref|sa3.5|3}} Aboard the ''Wandersail'', Cord took on the role of cook after the previous cook's departure.{{book ref|sa3.5|4}} During the journey, Cord discovered an infestation of worms in the barrels of grain.{{book ref|sa3.5|6}}
Cord mentioned to [[Lopen]] and [[Huio]] that the Unkalaki make trades the "people in spren world" and can acquire aluminum from them. This is likely in reference to [[Shadesmar]], due to [[Cultivation's Perpendicularity]] being located in the [[Horneater Peaks]]. Lopen was revealed at that time to have a crush on Cord and had made attempts to impress her.{{book ref|sa3.5|7}} Cord later revealed to [[Rysn]] that she was aware Lopen was attempting to impress her.{{book ref|sa3.5|9}} Cord told Lopen that when her father returns to the Peaks to face judgement for killing [[Amaram]], she will not return with him.{{book ref|sa3.5|7}}
When the crew of the ''Wandersail'' went ashore, following the encounter with [[Sleepless]] in the form of a dead [[santhid]], Cord told Rysn the stories she knew of the [[Sleepless|Gods Who Sleep Not]], the Unkalaki name for the Sleepless.{{book ref|sa3.5|9}}
As a final attempt to make the ''Wandersail'' turn away from its task, [[Nikli]], the Sleepless, attempted to frame Cord. However, Rysn saw through his deceit.{{book ref|sa3.5|10}} Cord later thanked Rysn for believing that she was "good".{{book ref|sa3.5|14}}
While on board the ship, waiting for word from the landing party on Akinah, Cord revealed to Rysn tha her primary motivator for joining the expedition was to acquire Shardplate and Shardblades for her people. She feared that when the rest of Roshar discovered the existence of Cultivation's Perpendicularity, they would attempt to claim the Horneater Peaks.{{book ref|sa3.5|14}}
When Nikli and the other Sleepless boarded the ''Wandersail'', Cord revealed that she did not know the Sleepless could take human form, that they cannot be fought, and that [[Lunu'anaki]], possibly in reference to [[Hoid]], during her grandmother's time, warned of the danger the Sleepless present. Nikli tells Cord that he did not expect the presence of a Sighted on the expedition, and that the Sleepless do not kill Sighted lightly. Cord then shouted something at Nikli in Horneater as a distraction then grabbed Rysn and dove into the water.{{book ref|sa3.5|15}}
In the water, luckspren guided the pair to a hidden set of caverns. The cavern contained a set of Shardplate, eight soulcasters, and a mural likely depicting the shattering of [[Adonalsium]]. Cord claimed this Shardplate for herself, thereby becoming a Shardbearer. Cord is the only other human to know the full details of the deal between Rysn and the Sleepless, being sworn to secrecy in the process.{{book ref|sa3.5|16}}{{book ref|sa3.5|18}}{{book ref|sa3.5|19}}
