The Skyward universe is used to refer to the shared universe of Skyward and Defending Elysium.

History

At some point, humans went to war against all other alien races. Humankind lost. The victors were a group of aliens who considered humankind to be too uncivilized to be allowed to join the intergalactic community. They ordered all human fleets to surrender to their authority. The inhabitants of the Defiant refused, and the coalition sent a group to capture them. After a conflict on board the Defiant, one of the users of psionics sent the ship to Detritus. The group of aliens followed, and set up a station to watch them after crashing. They continue being stationed there as prison guards.
