Ever since childhood, Shallan has shared a bond with the [[Cryptic]] [[Pattern]], allowing her to manifest Pattern as a [[Shardblade]]. Years later, this bond also allows her to access her powers as a [[Surgebinder]]. Eventually, during the [[Battle of Narak]], her bond with Pattern allows her to become one of the first two new members of the Knights Radiant in centuries, along with [[Kaladin]]. Their public revelation serves as the catalyst for the re-founding of the Knights Radiant.
