After the Reckoners' hit on Conflux went awry, David and Megan attempted to escape together on a motorcycle. The vehicle crashed, mortally injuring Megan. David defended her from their pursuers and confessed his infatuation for her while she lay unconscious. After Prof rescued the two of them and brought them back to the Reckoners' base, Megan died of her injuries despite [[Tia]]'s attemptedattempt to treat Megan's injuries, but Megan diedher. The Reckoners abandoned the base and burned everything they left inside, including Megan's remains, in order to cover their tracks.
