He was the wing mate of [[Zeen Nightshade]] (callsign: '''Chaser'''), [[Spensa]]'s father, and fought with him the [[Battle of Alta]]. {{book ref|Skyward|Prologue}} After Chaser came back from the sky and began to shoot down friendly ships, Cobb shot him down on [[Judy Ivans|Ironside's]] orders.

After some more training, battles and many questions from the team on Krell tactics, Cobb opened to them some confidential intel on both the Krell, the planet and history. Not much to go on, but it did help the team to understand more about them and the possibility of intelligent machines, which Spensa matched to MBOT. {{book ref|Skyward|27}}

He helped Spensa learn the truth about her father and followed through explaining people believe there is a genetic defect for his actions and asked her if she saw eyes in the dark or could hear the stars as her father had confessed he had, before the incident. {{book ref|Skyward|40}}

Tras la muerte de Arcada, pronuncia un airado discurso sobre la eyección, preguntando si preferían ser llamados cobardes o morir salvando su nave. Explica que Arcada no será enterrada con honores ya que la cápsula fue destruida. Da a la clase una baja médica de una semana y escribe una carta a sus padres.{{book ref|Skyward|33}}
 
Ayuda a Spensa a conocer la verdad sobre su padre y le dice que se sospecha que existe un defecto genético por sus acciones. Luego le pregunta si ve ojos en la oscuridad o si puede oír las estrellas, como su padre había confesado antes del incidente.{{book ref|Skyward|40}}
