The Great Slug Rebellion is a story told by Gran-Gran to Spensa when she is a little girl. Spensa often referred to it as Ships and Slugs, though often interrupted Gran-Gran, which more times than not, leading to the story being left incomplete.

Excerpt

In the story, our protagonist Janci, comes into possession of important knowledge involving mythical slugs of red, yellow, and purple. She had searched far and wide, wanting to learn more and more about their unique physiology, to answer the age old question ‘how do taynix slugs poop?’

Janci found that the answer continued to elude her, so went searching for help, looking far and wide, until one day she came across a group who peaked her interest. She asked them ‘do you know how slugs poop?’ Sadly they shook their heads, but they looked at her with bright eyes, eager to help her find the information, and complete her journey. While she visited them, she told them stories of other people she had met, their loves, their losses, and how they had come to find one another. The people were intrigued, and found they liked the idea of these strangers and how they could fit so well together with each other, even when they were not truly meant to be.

The group thanked Janci for her hard work and stories, and encouraged her to continue her quest and to never give in, because one day, she would find the answer. Returning home from her journey, Janci, full of hope and vigor, sat down at her table to continue with her research.
