The True Desolation is mentioned throughout the [[The Way of Kings]], the first book of the [[Stormlight Archive]]. It appears that the True Desolation will be somehow different from the previous hundred Desolations that were said to have occurred.
Both [[Kaladin]] and [[Dalinar Kholin]] have visions where they are warned that the True Desolation comes.

The [[Oathpact]] has been broken by the [[Heralds]]. [[Talenel'Elin]] tried to uphold it but was not enough to do it by himself. Hence why he says that he has failed in the last chapter of the [[The Way of Kings]]. Now that the [[Oathpact]] has been broken it leaves the possibility for a "True Desolation" to occur.
