Un '''albañalero''' es una profesión de[[Lumar]]. Los albañaleros son los sirvientes más bajos de la casa del rey. Recorren las alcantarillas del palacio para asegurarse de que nada de valor haya sido descartado por error y generalmente son evitados debido al hedor que adquieren por su trabajo. El mar Esmeralda tiene una historia sobre un "albañalero", cuya moraleja advierte sobre las consecuencias no deseadas de acciones menores.{{book ref|tress|34}}
A '''tosher''' is a profession from [[Lumar]]. Toshers are the lowest servant in the king's household. They comb the palace's sewerage to ensure nothing of value had been discarded by mistake and are generally avoided due to the stench gained from their line of work. El albañalero no está muy contento con su vida, pero lo único que le gusta es su cena: patatas con manteca de cerdo. Pide otra patata y se la dan para que deje de pedirla. Le dan dos patatas al día hasta que cambian la comida por pan de maíz con manteca de cerdo, que odia. Espera que vuelvan las patatas, pero parece que no. Molesto, se propone conseguir que las patatas vuelvan a ser la comida de los criados.
The tosher is not very happy with his life, but the one thing he likes is his dinner: potato with lard. He asks for another potato, and they give it to him so he will stop asking for it. He gets two potatoes per day until they change the meal to cornbread with lard, which he hates. He expects the potatoes to return, but they don’t seem to. Annoyed, he sets out to make potatoes be the servant's food again.
 
Primero pregunta a la cocinera, que le dice que ella no puede cambiar el menú, ya que es el mayordomo quien lo fija. Cuando pregunta al mayordomo, éste le dice que no puede servir patatas porque la ministra de comercio ya no las proporciona. Acude a la ministra de comercio y le devuelve un anillo suyo que había caído en la alcantarilla. Le concede una audiencia bajo la lluvia y con fuertes vientos. Cuando él le plantea su problema, ella le dice que no puede ayudarle, ya que el rey ordena que sólo se alimente a los criados con maíz. Finalmente, consigue hablar con el rey mientras está defecando, ya que el albañalero está justo debajo de él haciendo su trabajo. Le pide patatas al rey, pero éste le dice que los cultivos de patatas han sido tomados por las plagas. El rey también explica que tuvo que dejar de comprar patatas incluso antes de que murieran las cosechas, ya que todos los criados habían empezado a pedir dos tras las acciones del albañalero y el aumento de la demanda las había encarecido demasiado.
He first asks the cook, which tells him that she can’t change the menu as the butler is who gets to set it. When he asks the butler, he says that he can’t serve potatoes as the minister of trade no longer provides potatoes. He goes to the minister of trade and returns a ring of hers that had fallen in the sewer. She grants him an audience in the rain and with high winds. When he presents his problem to her, she says she can’t help him as the king mandates that only corn be fed to the servants. Finally, he manages to talk with the king while he is defecating, as the tosher is just below him doing his job. He asks the king for potatoes, but he tells him that the potato crops have been taken over by pests. The king also explains that he had to stop buying potatoes even before the crops died as all servants had begun asking for two potatoes after the tosher’s actions and the increased demand had made the potatoes too expensive.
 
El albañalero reflexiona. Llega a la conclusión de que incluso las pequeñas acciones tienen consecuencias, y aunque podemos elegir las acciones, rara vez podemos elegir las consecuencias.
The tosher reflects. He reaches the conclusion that even small actions have consequences, and even though we can choose the actions, we rarely get to choose the consequences.
