|Adolin, on the fact that Dalinar killed Evi
}}
Adolin is incredibly loyal to his father, though he doesn't always see eye-to-eye with Dalinar and is unafraid to voice his opinions.{{book ref|sa1|24}} Despite his opposing views he remains steadfastly obedient, listening to his father and following the [[Alethi Codes of War]]{{book ref|sa1|22}} even if he does not necessarily believe in them or wish to obey them. He shows an unwillingness to become the highprince when Dalinar considers stepping aside in favor of him, still intensely loyal to his father.{{book ref|sa1|52}} His skepticism surrounding the Codes eventually changes and Adolin begins to understand their purpose.

Later, when Elhokar died, Dalinar wants Adolin to become the new king. Adolin refuses as he doesn't believe he is the right person to take the crown. His father could not understand this, and is furious when Adolin admits to killing Sadeas.{{book ref|sa3|122}} The publishing of the Blacktorn's memoir, including the admission of Dalinar's role in Evi's dead, caused a further rift between Adolin and his father. Adolin still loves and respects his father but can not forgive him for killing his mother. The young highprince is slowly realizing he has a different moral code than his father.{{book ref|sa4|21}} Nevertheless, Adolin stays loyal and doesn't want to let his father down by failing the mission to the honorspren.{{book ref|sa4|34}}

==== Renarin ====
Adolin considers Renarin to be his best friend. Whenever Adolin is about to participate in a duel, Renarin makes sure that he followed their duelist's superstitions--eating chicken for breakfast, talking with Maya, and keeping his mother's chain in a pocket.{{expand}}

=== Kaladin ===
Adolin's relationship with Kaladin begins with a rocky start. Their first interaction is at the Battle of the Tower, when Kaladin yells at Adolin that the Kholin troops won't retreat without ''him'', and Kaladin's troops won't retreat without the Kholin troops, and commands him to retreat.{{book ref|sa1|68}} Although he does so once Kaladin runs to aid Dalinar in his fight against [[Eshonai]], he doesn't trust the bridgeman for a while longer.

After Szeth first attacks Dalinar, Adolin begins to respect Kaladin. He still thinks that the man is keeping secrets, as he saw the assassin hit Kaladin with his Shardblade, but he keeps them to himself. However, when he jumps into the arena with nothing but a spear to save Adolin and Renarin, causing them to win the battle, Adolin realizes that no matter what secrets he's keeping, the man is genuine, and so confines himself to prison for the duration of Kaladin's sentence. After they both leave, Adolin strikes up a conversation, and believes Kaladin instantly when he asks if his accusations about Amaram were truthful, saying that even Dalinar--the most honorable man he knows--loses his temper and has a troubled past, but Amaram's seeming perfection stinks too much of a man who works very hard to keep his reputation clean. When he arrives back at camp, he tries to give a set of the Shards he won to Kaladin, and is surprised when he gives them straight to Moash. However, Kaladin replies that too many of his friends have been killed by Blades, and since he is capable of fighting Szeth without Shards, there will be one extra person to defend Dalinar against the assassin when he next comes.
