Cryptics have the ablity to grant [[Surgebinder]]s access to the Cognitive Realm. In return they require a truth from the person in question. The truth must be personal in nature and the more "powerful" the truth the stronger the resultant bond. The bond in question very likely gives the Surgebinder the ability to Soulcast.{{book ref|sa1|70}}
== Culture ==
Cryptics only hold a single city in Shadesmar, and unlike the honorspren, do not have any inclination to conquer more territory, so other types of sentient spren do not war with Cryptics.{{book ref|sa3|47}} However, they are still disliked by certain other spren.{{book ref|sa3|47}}
Currently, Cryptics as a whole are supportive of their members forming Nahel bonds with humans. One of the first Cryptics to attempt to form a bond was Pattern{{wob ref|date=2016-12-1|5899|Arcanum Unbounded Seattle signing}}, who did so with the approval of his peers.{{wob ref|date=2015-1-24|3166|Firefight Atlanta signing}} Currently, the Cryptics are eager for more bonding to occur.
